Analyzing Automotive Paints With Extended Range ATR: 1800–100 cm-1

چکیده
Infrared (IR) spectroscopy is used extensively to characterize the chemical composition of trace evidence such as paints, fibers and adhesives as well as seized drugs and related chemicals. We have recently introduced the Thermo ScientificTM iSTM50 ATR module, a novel, extended-range attenuated total reflectance (ATR) module that is integrated into the NicoletTM iS50 FT-IR spectrometer. This insures that the ATR module is always available for rapid analysis of unknown materials even with another accessory mounted in the sample compartment. The built-in ATR combines an optimized optical design with a diamond ATR crystal and a broad range DTGS detector to provide high-sensitivity infrared spectroscopy from 4000 cm-1 to 100 cm-1. The enhanced stability, resulting from mounting the ATR within the sealed section of the spectrometer, makes it possible to acquire spectra down to 200 cm-1 even with a desiccated system.

ATR-FTIR spectroscopy detects alterations induced by organotin(IV) carboxylates in MCF-7 cells at sub-cytotoxic/-genotoxic concentrations
The environmental impact of metal complexes such as organotin(IV) compounds is of increasing concern. Genotoxic effects of organotin(IV) compounds (0.01 mug/ml, 0.1 mug/ml or 1.0 mug/ml) were measured using the alkaline single-cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay to measure DNA single-strand breaks (SSBs) and the cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay to determine micronucleus formation....
متن کاملSoil Classification Via Mid-infrared Spectroscopy
The need for rapid and inexpensive techniques for soil characterization has led to the investigation of modern technologies, and in particular those based on reflectance spectroscopy. While near-infrared has been traditionally used, midinfrared in the 400-4000 cm-1 range is becoming increasingly common due to the specificity of the absorbance bands in this spectral range. The present work discu...
متن کاملScratch Resistance of Paints Degraded by Arid Saharan Environments
In the vast Algerian Sahara, the climate is typically desert, characterized by heat and dryness all year, which contributes to a very pronounced aridity. The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of this arid environment on automotive paints. Four paint samples with different durations of use were tested. Initially, a visualization of the surface condition by optical microscopy and...
متن کاملApplication of time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry to automobile paint analysis.
Time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS) provides a method of elemental analysis that can distinguish among automotive paint samples of the same or nearly the same color. TOF-SIMS survey spectra were employed to determine the relative abundances of elements in the surface layers of the paint chips. The depth profile of paint samples permitted the analysis of small paint chips, ...
متن کاملDifferentiation of Anatolian honey samples from different botanical origins by ATR-FTIR spectroscopy using multivariate analysis.
Botanical origin of the nectar predominantly affects the chemical composition of honey. Analytical techniques used for reliable honey authentication are mostly time consuming and expensive. Additionally, they cannot provide 100% efficiency in accurate authentication. Therefore, alternatives for the determination of floral origin of honey need to be developed. This study aims to discriminate cha...
